Course Description:  Continuation of ET 331 Harmonic Ear Training 1.  [Identification of chord progressions.  Root motion, guide tone resolution, melody/harmony relationships.  Acquisition of harmonic dictation skills.]

Course Objective:  Through progressive exercises, the student will develop techniques, which will facilitate the aural recognition of harmonies and harmonic progressions, and upon satisfactory completion of this course will be able to accurately notate chord progressions of intermediate to advanced difficulty.  In at least every other class a series of individual chords are played for recognition.  Chord quality must be identified and there is special emphasis on chords with tensions.  Melodic dictation is also included with the intent on recognition of chord tones and melodic tensions.

Required Textbook:  None.

Homework, Projects, Out-of-class Preparation:  Listening assignments and quizzes will be given at the discretion of the instructor.  A midterm and a final exam are also required.  In order to maintain satisfactory standing in this class, approximately two hours per week of out-of-class preparation are recommended.

Midterms:  March 8-12

Final Exam Date: May 3-7
