| Giovanni Moltoni - Ear Training Material -7th chords plus one tension- |
|
In this exercise a
basic 7th chord will be played in root position (ex: C, E,
G, B) together with one of the available tensions on the melody (for C
Maj 7 it would be D, F# or A). The goal of the exercise is to correctly
identify the quality of the chord and the tension. I will use only Maj7,
dom 7, min7 and min7b5 chords in this page. This is the list of possible
chords: Maj7 9, Maj7 #11, Maj7 13, Dom7 b9, Dom7 9, Dom7 #9, Dom7 #11,
Dom7 b13, Dom7 13, min7 9, min7 11, min7 13, min7b5 9, min7b5 11. The
voicing will always be played harmonically and in unrelated keys, the
bass will be played as reference. The answer sheet includes the voicings
and the actual chord (ex: CMaj7 #11) but the student should only recognize
the quality of the chord and the tension (ex: Maj7 #11). As usual, the
answer sheet is provided for you so that you will be able to correct your
mistakes. Use a pencil of a different color to mark them. In time, this
will give you an idea of your progress. Keep all the exercises in a folder
so that they will be available for review.
