Projects
In groups of 2-4, research and prepare a 10-15 minute creative presentation that involves the class in an exploration of a specfic topic and a major concept of the course. Imagine a technotopia, a not-too-distant utopia or dystopia in which technology (or the lack of it) plays a major role. Focus your topic by choosing an aspect of technology, researching the state of it today, and extending it into the future. Your presentation should include: - clear connection to the major themes of the course - original website (which you will project as part of the presentation) - active participation and involvement of the class - visuals (posters,
transparencies, video, costumes) - handout for the
class
(think creatively: a front page of a newspaper, a manual, instructions,
pamphlet, etc) - music - bibliography Use at least 3 sources. NOTE: Do NOT stand up there with notecards and read off them one at a time. Instead, think creatively: a skit, a game, a demonstration, etc. SOME IDEAS FOR TOPICS: - what it means to be human - cloning - digital art - speed - mechanization - artificial intelligence - how we define reality - music technology - "actual" and "virtual" experiences - reproductive technology - gender - identity - cyberspace - new media technologies - war and technology - robots - entertainment -
