PROFICIENCY REGISTRATION & PROCEDURES
- You must have a passing score on the MTEL Communication Skills licensing exam.
- You must have passed or have proof of registration for the MTEL Music licensing exam.
- You must have completed ME-211: Elementary Classroom Methods.
- You must have completed or are currently enrolled in ME-311: Secondary Classroom Methods.
- You must have completed or are currently enrolled in ISKB-322: Keyboard 4 for Music Education.
- You must have completed or are currently enrolled in ME-321: Vocal Methods and Materials.
- You must have completed or are currently enrolled in one woodwind class ISWD-2xx.
- You must have completed or are currently enrolled in one brass class ISBR-2xx.
- You must have written clearance from your advisor and Nalora Steele to sign-up. Click here to download the clearance form (Word format).
- Proper student teaching dress is required.
- You will be videotaped.
- A 30-minute time period is allocated for the exam. If you are not well prepared, you will be asked to leave and finish the exam at a later date.
Note: You do not have to perform the proficiency components in the order they are listed on the requirements sheet. It is suggested that you prepare a portfolio of your materials in the order that you plan to perform them. We have many samples from prior semesters available so please contact either Libby Allison, Stefani Langol, or Bobbi Harman to make arrangements to view them.
